Wayland vs X11: Which is actually faster for Linux gaming? NVIDIA has finally tested Wayland, X11, and XWayland using real hardware-based input latency measurements, and the results challenge everything we thought we knew about Linux gaming performance!
For years, Linux gamers have debated whether X11 offers lower input lag than Wayland, especially on NVIDIA GPUs. But NVIDIA’s latest input-to-photon latency tests reveal something surprising: native Wayland and X11 are now incredibly close, and even XWayland doesn’t necessarily introduce the extra frame of latency many people expected.
