Part 4: Utility Components in Drupal (Spotlight on Symfony in Drupal)

We’ve made it to the final blog post (for now?) in our spotlight on Symfony in Drupal. In this blog post, we’ll take a look at Symfony’s utility components. We’re using this term to group together Symfony components that provide useful functionality. It’s a great idea to familiarize yourself with these. You can make use of them in your own modules, or bring them into other PHP application code.

Google to optionally ingest your Google Messages history into its “AI”

Posted on February 1, 2024 by Michael G
Researchers have just unveiled a pre-release, game-changing AI upgrade for Google Messages. But it’s one with a serious privacy risk—it seems that Bard may ask to read and analyze your private message history. So how might this work, how do you maintain your privacy, and when might this begin. ↫ Zak Doffman As long as this “AI” hoovering is an optional ‘feature’, I don’t really have any issues with it – it’s a free world, and if you want to spice up your autocomplete like this, go ahead. The real danger, of course, is that this won’t be optional for long, and eventually Google’s “AI” will just ingest your messages and emails by default, consent or no.

Combined Design Changes with Mild Hybrids , New BMW 4 Series Coupe and Convertible 2025

Posted on January 31, 2024 by Michael G
The updated 4 Series range features revised styling, improved interior space and mild hybrid powertrains.

The BMW 4 Series is getting a little more expressive as the company introduces an updated coupe and convertible model.

Set to launch globally in March, the cars have received a mild refresh that sees them fitted with sharper-looking headlights and available Laserlight taillights. The latter comes standard on the M440i and features “laser diodes that illuminate bundles of glass fibers, producing attractive three-dimensional light graphics.”

Elsewhere, customers will find new 19-inch wheels and a revised color palette including Cape York Green metallic and Vegas Red metallic. The 430i variants feature matte chrome accents and a new mesh intake design, while the M440i features a new gloss black grille with M badging.

The sporty version also features black tailpipe finishers as well as gloss black accents, replacing the previous Cerium Gray accents. Buyers looking for something more aggressive can get the optional M Carbon Exterior Package.

Minor updates continue inside, too, as the cars are equipped with new steering wheels with illuminated controls as well as gear shift paddles. Buyers will also find standard sport seats, revised ambient lighting and new air vents. Other highlights include iDrive 8.5 and the familiar Curved Display.

Under the hood of the 430i is a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with mild hybrid technology. The engine also features a number of upgrades, including “redesign of the intake ports and combustion chambers” as well as “innovations in the areas of camshaft control, injection, ignition system and exhaust gas routing.” Despite all the changes, output remains unchanged at 255 hp (190 kW / 259 PS) and 295 lb-ft (400 Nm) of torque.

The 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder engine in the M440i is new and benefits from a mild hybrid system capable of delivering 11 hp (8 kW / 11 PS) and 200 Nm (148 lb-ft) of torque. “10 seconds in total.” As a result, the powertrain has a total output of 386 hp (288 kW / 391 PS) and 398 lb-ft (539 Nm) of torque; that’s a slight increase over last year’s model, which was rated at 382 hp and 369 lb-ft, respectively.

The models will arrive in the United States for the 2025 model year, with pricing starting at $50,700 for the 430i Coupe and $58,700 for the 430i Convertible. Upgrading to the M440i Coupe costs $64,250, while the performance-focused top model starts at $72,250.
