Let the user provide an alternative perfpolicy when on battery

The current behavior of "auto", which implies running at full speed when
on AC power, does not fit all the hardware and use cases. For some people
it results in more power consumption, more heat, more noise, etc.

Extend the semantics of hw.perfpolicy and provide two buttons to
specify the desired behavior:

sysctl hw.perfpolicy=<policy while on ac>[,<policy while on battery>]

Keep the default behavior of "high,auto". People can opt for "auto,auto"
or simply "auto" instead.

This is now in snapshots, so please test if you run those!

We’ve improved the repo index web page a bit this week. Now you can find the link to the client app easily on any mirror too. If you want to share F-Droid to your friends but they can’t access f-droid.org, you can share the mirror directly and they’ll be guided (in English or Chinese for now) step by step.

Community News

Session was updated to 1.20.7. On the administration side, Session developers have changed their stewards, from the Australian OPTF to the new Swiss “Session Technology Foundation”. You can read more about why here. Note that, our own @linsui cleans up the codebase to make the app good enough for it to be included, and F-Droid builds and signs the package. Any upstream changes to signing will not affect F-Droid.

KeePassDX – FOSS Password Safe was updated to 4.1.0 and 4.1.1, adding support for “Key File” generation, along with other improvements. You can read more about keyfiles here, here and here.

KOReader was updated to v2024.11, with lots of changes as usual. The dictionary functionality was fixed for new installs, support for a few new devices was added, the long-awaited color highlights feature was added, and more.

Cinnamon Desktop 6.4 released

The Cinnamon Desktop, the GTK desktop environment developed by the Linux Mint project, has just released version 6.4. The focus of this release is on nips and tucks in the default theme, dialogs, menus, and other user interface elements. They seem to have taken a few pages out of GNOME’s book, especially when it comes to dialogs and the OSD, which honestly makes sense considering Cinnamon is also GTK and most Cinnamon users will be running a ton of GNOME/Libadwaita applications. There’s also a new night light feature to reduce eyestrain, vastly improved options for power profiles and management, and more. Cinnamon 6.4 will be part of Linux Mint’s next major release, coming in late December, but is most likely already making its way to various other distributions’ repositories.
