ISP-provided routers often control our entire digital lives, yet many are insecure black boxes running outdated firmware. In this talk, learn how to take control of a locked-down consumer router, uncover hidden security flaws, and repurpose it into a powerful network defense tool.
This session covers two practical hacks: first, the forensic process of analyzing router firmware, exploring binary structures, and discovering hardcoded backdoor credentials to gain root access. Second, transforming the compromised router into a network-wide ad blocker and security device.
Perfect for cybersecurity enthusiasts, IoT hackers, and privacy-conscious users, this talk offers a practical roadmap for reverse engineering routers and understanding the hidden risks inside everyday network appliances.

FINOS held its first 2026 community call with 200+ attendees, sharing rapid growth in membership (including new platinum members and passing 100 total members), increased developer-event participation, and momentum from OSFF Toronto (300+ attendees, 13 countries) with new HPC project announcements. Leaders reiterated FINOS’s mission to deliver tangible industry value and highlighted focus areas including open standards (FDC3 approaching 3.0 and CDM adoption for regulatory reporting), open collaboration for tech risk and compliance via machine-readable controls, and an expanded AI initiative with plans for an AI governing board and leadership training. The TOC reviewed a revamped project lifecycle (Labs, Incubating, Graduated, clearer archival) and opened elections for four seats. Project updates covered HPC (HTC Grid, OpenGRIS, ORB, 5-Spot), Fluxnova 2.0 and upcoming 3.0, CDM new use cases, CALM growth, TraderX refactor, GitProxy v2, and a migration to LFX meeting management, plus calls to action for OSFF London workshops and an AI & Finance leadership summit.

It’s a Linux Dev Time style hot questions episode. Is "cloud native" more about where the workload is going or how you deploy it? What is a skill that is really important in your job that may surprise people? Is the cloud more or less secure than a company-controlled data centre or on-prem? Would you recommend what you do to your kids/nephews etc?
