ChatGPT for Linux is FINALLY here — and it’s the real thing. OpenAI has released an official ChatGPT desktop app for Linux, with proper native DEB and RPM packages, signed repositories, and updates through apt and dnf. No unofficial wrapper, no community port, no "just use the website." In this video we install the ChatGPT Linux app on Ubuntu, compare it head to head with ChatGPT running in the browser, and find out whether it’s actually worth installing.

Because that’s the real question. If ChatGPT has worked fine in Firefox for years, why install a dedicated desktop app? The answer is the one feature that changes everything — the ChatGPT desktop app can work with real local files and projects on your computer. Instead of the endless copy-paste loop between your files and a browser tab, you can point ChatGPT at a folder, let it read your notes, Markdown files, CSVs and documents, reorganize that information, create new files, and then chain one step into the next.
