GNOME’s security coordinator is quitting — and the reason why should worry every single Linux user. For six years, Michael Catanzaro tracked every security vulnerability in the GNOME desktop alone. Now he says AI-generated vulnerability reports have become so overwhelming that human-written reports are the rare ones. In this video, we break down how AI slop broke the economics of Linux security — from GNOME’s December 1st deadline with no successor named, to curl killing its bug bounty, the Linux kernel drowning in a 20x flood of reports, and why a $12.5 million Linux Foundation fund still can’t fix the real bottleneck: humans.
And this isn’t just a GNOME story. curl’s Daniel Stenberg took the entire month of July off and called it possibly their best project decision in a long while.
