Ubuntu 26.10 “Stonking Stingray” is one of the most interesting Ubuntu releases in years. In this video, we take a complete look at what’s new in Ubuntu 26.10, including GNOME 51, Project Myna offline voice typing, Linux Kernel 7.3, Rust coreutils, the new amd64v3 optimized Ubuntu build, improved RAM management, Snap Layouts, Mesa 26.2, NVIDIA improvements, gaming updates and much more.

One of the biggest new additions is Project Myna — Canonical’s new system-wide, offline voice typing technology. It lets you speak directly into text fields across the Ubuntu desktop while processing your voice locally on your computer. No cloud transcription required.

But Ubuntu 26.10 gets even more interesting under the hood.

Canonical has completed its transition to Rust-based uutils coreutils, replacing commands including cp, mv and rm. Ubuntu is also experimenting with a separate amd64v3 build optimized for modern CPUs, while Linux 7.3 and Mesa 26.2 bring newer hardware support and graphics improvements.

GNOME 51 brings smoother animations, native blur foundations, improvements to Files and Settings, better display handling and numerous quality-of-life changes. Ubuntu 26.10 also introduces visual Snap Layouts for easier window management.

We’ll also look at:

• Project Myna and local AI voice typing
• GNOME 51
• Ubuntu Snap Layouts
• 100% Rust coreutils / uutils
• Ubuntu amd64v3 performance
• Linux Kernel 7.3
• Mesa 26.2 and Linux gaming
• NVIDIA driver support
• Improved out-of-memory / RAM management
• dbus-broker and Dracut changes
• Ubuntu Certified Hardware checking
• Canonical’s continued expansion of Snap
• RISC-V desktop support
• New Ubuntu 26.10 wallpapers and artwork
• Features that were planned but didn’t ship
• Ubuntu 26.04 LTS vs Ubuntu 26.10
• Whether you should upgrade to Ubuntu 26.10

Ubuntu 26.10 is an interim release with nine months of support, so it won’t be the right choice for every Ubuntu 26.04 LTS user. But if you have newer hardware, want the latest Linux kernel and graphics stack, or simply enjoy testing the newest Linux desktop technologies, Stonking Stingray is an extremely interesting release.
