**Sponsored:** xTool supplied the X1 and accessories in exchange for video coverage. All opinions and testing are my own.
We’re taking a look at the new xTool X1, a modular laser cutting and engraving platform combining a 55W CO₂ laser with high-speed galvo engraving and interchangeable laser sources.
The X1 supports five laser technologies: 55W CO₂, 20W diode, 60W MOPA, 5W UV and 30W fibre. Our setup includes the MOPA and UV modules, along with the automatic conveyor feeder and other accessories.
In this first review, we look at the machine, its design and setup, and how we’re starting to put it to work on practical fabrication projects. We’ll be using the X1 for OpenSourceLowTech builds and production work on our feature film LifeR, including props, costume components, set pieces and other custom fabrication.
We’ll explore the different laser modules, materials and applications in more detail as we continue using the machine.
