Open d’Australie 2023 – Ben Shelton : “I’m excited for what’s to come and, yeah, grateful that I…

Our new Product Roadmap is here!

by Marie Achour.

Hello Community Members,

The Moodle HQ Product team is proud to announce the launch of our new public roadmap!

Although we’ve always had our individual team plans, the Product Leadership team recently took on the challenge of making these plans more easily accessible to our Community Members and Contributors.

Our key strategic initiatives for 2023 and beyond will see us focus on two key areas.

1. Improving our user experience and flow

The entire user experience from onboarding to daily teaching and learning is being reviewed. We will be addressing the hundreds of issues community members raise with us on the ease of using Moodle day to day whilst rethinking how some of our most popular activities operate to make them more intuitive.

2. Evolving our technology

To ensure that Moodle can deliver cutting-edge products and services for the next decade and beyond, we are investing in optimising Moodle’s underlying architecture. Expect more modernised solutions, easier integrations and a cleaner, leaner platform that can continue to perform at scale across a distributed internet landscape.

You can see the activities we currently have mapped out to drive these initiatives by perusing our detailed roadmap; simply log in to Tracker and access this board

You can review this document to find out how the roadmap gets created and how you can contribute to its creation.

We hope you find this information helpful and look forward to your feedback on it.

Thank you,

The Moodle Products Leadership Team

Making Sense of Rails Assets

If you’re as confused about “which Rails asset pipeline to use” as I was when I wrote this, have a read! I ran into a problem today where I pulled this up to clarify a few things. It covers the differences between Sprockets, Tailwind, Dart SaaS, Webpacker, & Propshaft.

The defender’s guide to Windows Services

This is the second installment of the Defender’s Guide series. In keeping with the theme, we are discussing Windows Services, the underlying technology, common attack vectors, and methods of securing/monitoring them. Services are an important part of the Windows operating system, allowing the control and configuration of long-running processes essential to keeping the OS functional. This also allows services to be a common vector of escalation and persistence by attackers. Some services (especially custom services) run with high privilege levels, and are set to restart themselves on boot. This is a slam dunk for the enterprising attacker looking to gain a foothold in an environment. Everything you ever wanted to know about services in Windows, particularly as it relates to security.
